Privacy Policy
Effective date: 08/07/2026
Last updated: 15/07/2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Fructa ("we", "us", or "our"), the developer of the Fructa mobile application ("Fructa", the "app"), handles information in connection with your use of the app.
By using Fructa, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Who we are
Fructa is a Kenyan investment information and comparison tool. It collects publicly available rate data for money market funds, Treasury bills, bonds, fixed income funds, and SACCOs, and lets you track holdings you manage elsewhere. Fructa does not hold your money, process transactions, or place trades on your behalf.
Summary
- We do not require you to create an account to use the core features of the app.
- The holdings you add to your portfolio are stored on your own device, not on our servers.
- We use a third-party service to deliver push notifications, which involves a device identifier.
- We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not use your data for advertising.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- Fructa is intended for adults and is not directed at children.
Information we collect
Information you provide
When you add holdings to your portfolio (for example, a fund name and an amount), that information is stored locally on your device. It is used to calculate your consolidated total, allocation, and projections. This portfolio information is not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
Information collected automatically
- Device and technical information. When the app requests rate data or updates, our servers and service providers may record standard technical information such as your device type, operating system version, app version, and internet protocol (IP) address, together with the date and time of the request. This is used to operate and secure the service.
- Push notification identifier. If you enable notifications, our push provider assigns your app installation a device identifier and stores your notification preferences so that relevant alerts can be delivered. This identifier is used only to deliver notifications you have chosen to receive. See "Push notifications" below.
- Diagnostic information. We collect limited crash and performance information to detect and fix problems and to keep the app stable. This is processed by [CRASH / PERFORMANCE PROVIDER, e.g. Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Performance Monitoring]. It is used only for diagnostics and app functionality, and it is not used to track you or for advertising.
Biometric authentication
If you enable the app lock, Fructa uses your device's built-in biometric or passcode system to unlock the app. This check is performed entirely by your device's operating system. We do not receive, collect, or store your fingerprint, face data, or passcode.
How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide and maintain the app and its features.
- Display current and historical rate data and comparisons.
- Calculate your portfolio total, allocation, and projections on your device.
- Deliver notifications you have chosen to receive.
- Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, and abuse.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use any of this information to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not use it for advertising.
How your information is stored
Portfolio holdings and app settings are stored locally on your device using the device's standard storage and, where sensitive, secure storage provided by the operating system. If you uninstall the app or clear its data, this locally stored information is removed from your device.
Sharing and service providers
We do not sell your personal information, we do not share it for advertising purposes, and we do not share it with data brokers.
We use the following third-party service providers to operate the app. These providers process information only to perform services for us:
- OneSignal (push notification delivery). Processes a device identifier and notification preferences.
- Supabase (backend and hosting for the rate data the app downloads). Processes standard technical request information such as IP address.
- [CRASH / PERFORMANCE PROVIDER, e.g. Firebase (Google)] (crash and performance diagnostics). Processes limited crash and performance information. Remove this line if the app does not use a third-party diagnostics provider.
We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or a lawful request by a public authority.
Push notifications
Notifications are optional. If you enable them, we use OneSignal to deliver market-wide alerts and, where you have opted in, alerts related to the fund types you follow. To enable this, the app sends OneSignal a device identifier and opaque preference tags. These tags do not contain the amounts or the full list of holdings in your portfolio.
You can turn notifications off at any time from within the app's settings, or from your device's system settings. Turning them off stops future notifications.
Tracking
Fructa does not track you. We do not access your device's advertising identifier, we do not link the information we collect with third-party data for advertising purposes, and we do not share your information with data brokers. Because the app does not track you, it does not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
Data retention
Portfolio information remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Technical request logs and diagnostic and notification records held by our service providers are retained only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
Fructa is intended for users aged 18 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can address it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete it, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent.
Because your portfolio information is stored only on your device, you can access, change, or delete it directly within the app at any time. For any other request, or to exercise your rights in relation to information held by our service providers, contact us using the details below.
If you are in Kenya, your personal data is handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2019. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
International users and data transfers
The app may be accessed from outside Kenya, and our service providers may process information in other countries. Where information is transferred across borders, we take steps intended to ensure it remains protected in line with this policy and applicable law.
Accuracy of rate data
Rate information shown in Fructa is drawn from public sources, including the Central Bank of Kenya, the Capital Markets Authority, and fund managers. We work to keep it accurate and current, but we do not guarantee it. Fructa is an information tool and does not provide financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Always confirm figures with the relevant provider before making a decision.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide notice within the app. Your continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
